Kinloch was a Scottish composer of keyboard music. Little is known of his life, though his few surviving compositions are the most ample examples of Scottish keyboard music from the period. Kinloch composed in the same basic forms as his contemporary, William Byrd: fantasies, pavans & galliards, and grounds. Kinloch's compositions are rich in virtuoso figurations, with a tendency to build up effects over a long period; his command of form was impressive. ~ Todd McComb (6/94)
