Kurt Weill

(1900 - 1950)

Kurt Weill (March 2, 1900 - April 3, 1950) was a German composer of opera, operattas, and musicals for firrst the Berlin stage, then Paris, and finally Broadway.

Today his two best known works are The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper) and Mahagonny from his Berlin years, though he found more personal success with the musicals he wrote while in New York City such as Love Life, Street Scene, Down in the Valley, and Lost in the Stars.
