This recording is over ten years old but has been selected by Arts to receive the SACD treatment. Multichannel sound quite suits these works which require a certain amount of dexterity by the soloists and a judicious balance between the orchestra and the instrument. Yang is definitely a fine exponent of the cello part which calls for excellent technical virtuosity especially in the faster movements – this is very much in evidence in the Finale of #2 which is especially demanding.

Nos. 9 and 10 also include wind instruments alongside the cello and in the former we have the oboes and horns while in the latter there are just horns. Both make for a pleasing alternative to the stringed instruments although it is a pity that the soloists are not named. Otherwise this is a well-annotated, splendidly recorded disc which should appeal to those who are cognizant of this Italian 18th century repertoire.
