Listening to 'Uriapuru' is like confronting a massive battering ram of music that tends to engulf all in its high and mighty solemnity. Wagner and his Odense players certainly bring a hallowed magnificence to the work that is truly commendable.

Wagner also includes a characterful Bachianas Brasileiras #4 which has received great interpretations in the past but this version is commendable for its clarity. I was not so enthused by the obscurely titled, 'The Emperor Jones' however the ballet has great colour and zest and will appeal to all who enjoy big orchestral colour.

Bridge's crystal clear recording and painstakingly detailed notes are an added asset to such rare music. There is also a proposed disc by Ginastera from the same team in the pipeline. I'm looking forward to listening to that!
