Includes six long, sometimes mournful, sometimes disjointed Jewish, Christian and Muslim songs from the Middle ages, sung by Angela Mariani, David Stattelman and Allison Zelles to appropriate period accompaniment on strings, winds and percussion, with one short "a cappella" piece.

One gets the flavor of a Middle Eastern bazaar in these colorful, nitty-gritty performances, but the length of some pieces may occasionally test the patience of casual listeners.

Altramar combines medieval manuscripts with oral folk traditions in its reconstructions of a repertoire likely known to the troubadours.
