Reading about the dissolute life of Thomas Campion makes one wonder on his having produced any music at all but this beautifully produced volume demonstrates his succinct ability at turning out songs of the utmost quality.

I have no desire to dwell on the individual items apiece but will single out a few favourites, which caught my ear in Robin Blaze's outstanding interpretations. 'My sweetest Lesbia' is particularly enchanting whilst the lovely 'Fantasia' is highly imaginative and sensuous to an extreme. 'The Cypress curtain of the night' and 'Blame not my cheeks' are other further demonstrations of the composer's ability to set famous poems to some wonderful melodies.

Elizabeth Kenny writes with clear passion on this music whilst Robin Blaze and all instrumentalists on the record demonstrate their affinity to Campion's 'Move now… with measured sound'!
