The classic series of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas continues on Decca with original sleeve covers and label reproductions on the CD. These D'Oyly Carte versions have long held the fort for pristine integrity and legendary interpretation.
'Iolanthe' is one of those tales set in English history and is one of the more enjoyable operettas, Isidore Godfrey's direction is masterly from first note to last with a cast that perhaps is not so much known these days but was the cream of G&S interpretation at that time. An obvious must for all G&S fans who have not already snapped up these wonderful reissues.
