This is one of those discs that you pop into your CD player and just don't move until the last notes have died away. Siegbert Rampe plays a variety of instruments and the mastery of Sweelinck's music never fails to thrill. As usual, MD&G have provided a clean and realistic ambience for their recording which definitely adds to the allure of proceedings.

The harpsichord works contain some of Sweelinck's finest music with the Toccata T11 particularly effusive in Rampe's hands. However my favourite remains the organ and I was bowled over by Rampe's playing of the short Fantasia Crommatica and the monumental Phantasia à 4 P17 which showcases the St. Andreaskirche instrument.

Detailed notes by Rampe himself complement this excellent release. MD&G continues to provide the discerning musical public with high quality releases from the baroque and Renaissance era with Sweelinck amongst the most important of these composers from those periods. Highly recommended.
