This is the second disc in what appears to be a projected cycle of selected Haydn symphonies by the prolific Adam Fischer who has already set down the whole canon for Nimbus in what is only the second complete Haydn cycle in history.

The pairing brings together two of the master's most reliable works, #88 and the famous 'Clock'. Needless to stay the impeccably groomed Austro-Hungarian orchestra play the works with consummate vitality and vigour especially #101 which comes alive marvelously in the dashing Finale.

MD&G's recordings are a model of clarity throughout especially in the SACD version with its six channels of stunning sound. Those who are looking for fresh, no nonsense accounts of Haydn symphonies will want this beautifully presented disc.
