This is the second volume in a projected series of orchestral works by the prodigious and prolific Telemann of which the first collection was very well received. Musica Alta Ripa are tailor made for this sort of music with he talented soloists blending together to form a most admirable corporate whole.
The most substantial work on this hour long disc is the concluding Overture TWV55:4, a work that is practically identical to the Bach suites in layout. The seven movements are energetic and lithe with the opening Overture containing some delightfully pompous music. The Recorder Concerto, TWV52:F1 is also an overlooked work and here it is beautifully played by Danya Segal with fine accompaniment by Musica Alta Ripa.
It almost goes without saying that these German soloists have the music pretty much in their bones for these works. The opening Concerto in D minor is the ideal tonic to start off the disc. I'm sure that those who love the baroque will need no prompting to sample the delights of this collection of pieces by one of Germany's finest composers of the period.
