| Very little is known about this photo. I had not seen it, nor a companion, also to Miss Thompson, in any Stokowski books. The companion photo, also similarly inscribed, shows the young Stokowski standing outside, his arms above his head, a baton in his right hand!! We know that Stokowski ceased using a baton in 1929 at the age of 47. So, we can put the date somewhere between 1911 and 1929. Other than that, the only information Ed Heillakka, Curator of The Stokowski Collection, once housed at the Curtis Institute, could provide is that it sent to a Sarah Thompson and was presented to the collection by a Mr. R. Thompson in 1983. |
